About the event
James Mason has been experimenting from behind a camera since he was 12 years old. Taught by his grandfather, a WWI photographer who showed Mason how to operate a camera, choose the settings, frame the shot, and develop the film in the darkroom.
From his first Brownie Box camera to the latest Canon EOS, Mason began to become more serious about his photography in 2006 when as a volunteer he went to the Kimberley in WA to work with Aboriginal people in their communities. The ancient natural beauty of the area had a huge impact on him. The pristine gorges, rivers, squeaky sand beaches with crystal clear azure waters, amazing rock structures, fantastic sunsets and exciting/dangerous and colourful wildlife, along with some of the most wonderful people ever met, all contributed to a connection with outback Australia and which calls Mason back year after year.
Mason reflects on the huge habitat loss and wildlife extinction around the world, that we need to celebrate, document and share our landscape's unique beauty while it lasts.
